Objective & Interdisciplinary Approach
The workshop aims to preserve and highlight the traditional art of stone craftsmanship as an integral part of the cultural heritage of various regions in Epirus and southern Albania. Core pillars of the workshop include an interdisciplinary approach to stonework through lectures, engagement with the historical significance of Konitsa and its monuments, and practical training for participants through field exercises.
Active interaction among participants, craftsman-trainers, invited speakers, organizers, and visitors during the workshop ensures a critical and meaningful exchange of knowledge, contributing to the sustainability of stone craftsmanship for future generations. The workshop is aimed at students and professionals in architecture, archaeology, anthropology, and generally researchers, practitioners, and enthusiasts involved with traditional stone construction.
The workshop program includes:
Lectures by distinguished speakers from architecture, engineering, anthropology, and art history.
Practical training in a shared area north of the House of Hussein Sisko under the guidance of experienced craftsmen from the wider Konitsa and Epirus region.
Guided tour of selected monuments and landmarks of Konitsa such as the Church of St. Nicholas, the Hamkos House, the lower Konitsa mosque, and the bridge.
Event dedicated to the craft of stone masonry with competitions and experiential activities for children.
