BLENDED INTENSIVE PROGRAM
"Urban Landscapes in Intensity: Between Memory and Modernity"

Many cities around the world are facing a critical problem: on the one hand, they are trying to preserve their historical heritage, while on the other hand, they are being called upon to manage the pressures created by ongoing urbanization. This dual challenge often leads to conflicts, both social and spatial.

Participating Universities: University of Thessaly (organizer), Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Technical University of Iasi, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Euromed University of Fez, National Technical University of Athens.

BLENDED INTENSIVE PROGRAM
Slowing Down. Reading Social-Spatial Transformations Along Infrastructure Corridors.

The BIP is led by the Università Iuav di Venezia in collaboration with three higher education institutions: ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon, the Université Gustave Eiffel, and the University of Thessaly.

The teaching programme combines 3 online sessions with an intensive in-person week in Vicenza, designed to support a progressive process of theoretical grounding, field immersion, and applied research based on the Challenge-Based Education model (Engage, Investigate, Act).

MSc in Reuse of Buildings and Complexes
Label Architecture: "From Belgium with love"

In the framework of the MSc in Reuse of Buildings and Complexes of the Department of Architecture of the University of Thessaly, an online lecture with a guest of Label Architecture entitled "From Belgium with love" will take place.

Biography: Label architecture is an architectural practice based in Brussels. Their projects, on various scales, are as much an opportunity to play with existing space as not to take themselves too seriously while being serious about their work.

MSc in Reuses of Buildings and Complexes
Abdul-Halim Jabr: "Oscar in the City: what to do with Tripoli's Modernist White Elephant?"

As part of the MSc in Reuses of Buildings and Complexes, an online lecture will take place featuring guest speaker Abdul-Halim Jabr.

Biography: Abdul-Halim Jabr is an architect, urban design consultant, and part-time educator. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from AUB and a Master’s degree from MIT. He is active on urban issues including mobility, public spaces, and heritage buildings in Beirut, and is a founding member of the Beirut Heritage Initiative.

Themistoklis Bilis and Maria Magnisali

In the framework of the MSc Reuse of Buildings and Complexes, an online lecture will take place featuring Themistocles Bilis and Maria Magnisali as guests.

Biography: Maria Magnisali and Dr. Themistoklis Bilis run the architectural design office "Magnisali-Bilis architects". Guided by the connection of the monumental reserve with modern society, they have prepared studies for the promotion of monuments from all historical periods. In 2024 their project "Restoration of a 1615 complex in Naxos" won the European Sustainable Heritage Award.

Smart Shelter Foundation has launched registrations for their 2026 spring workshop: “From Temporary Shelter to Semi-permanent Homes.”
