Historical & Technical Context
  • 1832 & 1910
    Built in 1832 (as evidenced by the carved lintel of the south entrance) on the site of an ancient sanctuary, with the western extension completed in 1910.
  • Condition
    It remained abandoned since the 1970s. It exhibits severe structural issues, masonry cracks, and plaster detachment.

The Church of St. George is located in the center of the Metropolis of Karditsa settlement. It is an important religious and historical monument for the area, and its restoration aims at full structural remediation, conservation of its decorative elements, and returning it to the local community and visitors as an active cultural monument.
