Dr. Labros Koutas

Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering
His field of expertise and research interests are within the broader area of Reinforced Concrete Construction.

 

Mr. Koutas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Thessaly. He belongs to the Structural Engineering Sector and is a member of the Laboratory of Technology and Construction of Reinforced Concrete.
He was appointed as an Assistant Professor in 2018 on a tenure-track position and became a permanent faculty member in 2022. In 2024, he was promoted to Associate Professor. His field of expertise and research interests are within the broader area of Reinforced Concrete Construction.

He holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering (2008), a Master's Degree in Seismic Design of Structures (2010), and a PhD in Civil Engineering (2015) from the University of Patras.
He previously worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher for 3.5 years at the University of Nottingham and the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. During his academic career, he has received numerous awards, distinctions, and scholarships.

He has extensive research experience, having participated in research programs in the field of strengthening reinforced concrete structures with composite materials. Recently, he completed a Horizon 2020 research project, where he served as the scientific coordinator.
His published work includes more than 50 articles in international scientific journals and conferences.
He is a member of Task Group 5.1 of the International Federation for Concrete (fib Task Group 5.1 "FRP Reinforcement for Concrete Structures") and a member of the Technical Committee RILEM MCC (Committee on "Mechanical Characterization and Structural Design of Textile Reinforced Concrete").
Additionally, he has served as a reviewer for more than 270 articles in 32 international scientific journals and is a member of the International Editorial Board of the Journal of Composites for Construction of ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers).
