Adamakis Kostas

Prof. Kostas Adamakis, Professor at the Department of Architecture
He was born in Volos in 1954.
He graduated as an Architect Engineer from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 1977.

Since 1980, he has maintained a technical office in Volos, preparing studies for private and public projects. He holds a Class C license for public works studies and is proficient in the English language. He was a member of the Architectural Committee of Magnesia, the Architects' Association, and the representatives of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE). He was elected as a Municipal Councilor of Volos (for 3 terms) and served as Deputy Mayor of Volos from 1992 to 1997.

In 1986, he was awarded by the Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning, and Public Works (YPETHO) for a completed project in the fields of housing and public buildings.

He participates in architectural exhibitions, conferences, and his works have been published in renowned architectural magazines (Architectural Issues, Issues of Space and Arts, Building, Structures, etc.).

As part of teams, he has received significant distinctions in national and international architectural competitions.

Since 1999, he has been teaching in the Department of Architecture at the University of Thessaly, the course "Building Construction - Structural Materials" (1st - 2nd - 3rd - 4th semester), and since 2007, he has been teaching "Special Synthesis" (high-rise buildings with increased technological demands, 5th-7th semester) and "Special Synthesis / Industrial Buildings - New Uses" (7th semester). Since 2009, he has also been teaching the "Building Construction" course in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Thessaly.

Since 2005, he holds a PhD from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). The title of his doctoral dissertation is: "Industrial Buildings of Volos: Architectural Origin and Urban Role."

He served as the president of the Greek section of the International Committee for the Conservation of Industrial Heritage (TICCIH).

He participated in the team that developed the study for the first University building of the University of Thessaly, located in the former Papariga metal industry, which now houses the Department of Architecture. He also participated in the study of the University Library in the preserved building of the former Bank of Athens and in the study of the listed "Tsikriki Mansion," which houses the Foundation Council of the University of Thessaly.

He was a member of the Technical Council of the University of Thessaly from 2012 to 2014.

He represents the University of Thessaly in the architectural council of the Thessaly region for the Magnesia district and serves as an alternate representative on the monuments council of the Thessaly region.
